Straw bales, certified as weed free or weed seed free (see the requirements of Task
, Revegetation) shall be placed adjacent to each stream at the base of each side slope
created during performance of this Task. A trench measuring four inches (4") deep, by
the width of the bales, by the length of the side slope cuts shall be excavated at the
base of each side slope cut. The base of the trench shall be smooth and free of large
rock so that the bales may be placed in direct contact with the ground surface. Each
bale shall be anchored using two wood stakes per bale. The bales shall be placed so
that any one bale is in direct contact with the adjacent bale (s).
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment. Payment for this task will be reflected in a lump
sum bid under Item 3 on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover all costs for excavation,
removal and disposal of the culverts, excavation of the side slopes and channel bottom, and
placement of straw bales. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER. Such payment shall be considered full compensation for all labor,
materials, equipment and all other items necessary and incidental to the completion of Task 3,
Culvert Removal.
TASK 4 EARTH WORK
The earth work portion of this bid involves reclamation of the eastern most portion of
the Rock Tunnel back wall. The material excavated during performance of Task 3,
Culvert Removal will be transported to the back wall for use as backfill material for the
purpose of covering the demolished concrete rubble, and to create a shallow back fill
slope.
The targeted height of backfill is twenty five feet (25'), and the approximate length of
highwall to be backfilled is 100 feet. The PROJECT MANAGER shall mark the
targeted backfill height and the east and west margins of the backfill area using spray
paint or other suitable means. All rubble and debris placed adjacent to the back wall
shall be buried during completion of this task by no less than four feet (4') of earthen
materials.
Backfilling shall occur so that the earthen materials excavated from the Dutch Creek
Culvert, in conjunction with the material excavated from the hole dug at the base of the
back wall during performance of Task 2, Demolition, is used initially, or as the core of
the backfill. The backfilled slopes shall be compacted every two feet (2') by sheep's
foot roller. The material excavated from the Road E culvert is of better quality, and
shall be used as cover over the previously placed materials. Backfilled slopes shall not
exceed 2.5H:1 V upon completion of operations.
Amendment of the backfill cover material and surface roughening will be accomplished
during performance of Task , Revegetation.
Measurement and Payment
