task will be made only for the unit price shown under Item 9 of the Bid Schedule.
Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the PROJECT
MANAGER.
TASK 10 TOPSOIL APPLICATION
Topsoil will be applied to most of the areas disturbed during completion of this Project. Areas to
be topsoiled include the Upper and Lower Sutey access roads, the Ditch 8 area, the coal refuse
pile located at the former location of the wash plant, the Old Coal Stockpile area located near the
second switchback of Road A, and all other areas affected during Task 9, Earth Work.
NOTE that topsoil application at the Upper and Lower Sutey access roads was accomplished
during completion of Task 4, Road Grading. Topsoil application specifications for these two
areas are contained in this Task description, and payment will also be made under this Task.
Topsoil application of the area adjacent to Ditch 8 which was covered by the liner was
accomplished during completion of Task 8, Surface Channels, and was paid per that Task
description. Topsoil application of areas outside of the liner will be described, measured and
paid under Task 10, Topsoil Application.
Upon completion and PROJECT MANAGER approval of Task 9, Earth Work, and any
other tasks which must be accomplished prior to topsoil application, topsoil will be
applied to the various features subject to this Project. Topsoil will be derived from the
topsoil stockpile located immediately west of the Sutey Topsoil Stockpile (Map 3,
Project Area).
Prior to topsoil application, all areas to which topsoil will be applied will be ripped. The
ground surface will be ripped to a minimum depth of eight inches (8") on no less than thirty inch
(30") centers. Ripping shall occur perpendicular to the fall of the slope. Topsoil will be spread
to a depth of six inches (6") over all areas subject to this Project, unless otherwise
specified in another Task. It is estimated that Xxx acres will be topsoiled. Therefore,
approximately 00000 cubic yards of topsoil will be needed to achieve an average six
inch (6") cover of soil over all areas. Upon completion of the topsoil application, the
surface of the soil shall be left in a roughened condition.
Coal Refuse Pile Roughening
CONTRACTOR will create a minimum of thirty five (35) small bumps or hummocks per
acre on the slopes of the coal refuse area. These features will be constructed in a
random pattern across the slope. A two foot (2') minimum overlap of the edges of the
hummocks is required (see Figure 3, Soil Hummocks). These bumps or hummocks will
be the width of a dozer blade, eight to ten feet (8' to 10') in width, by six to eight inches
(6" to 8") in height. The axis of these features vyill be constructed perpendicular to the
fall of the slope. The top of the refuse disposal area will be roughened as described
below.
Roughening of Other Areas
19
