Foundations remaining on the refuse pile will be removed or buried. Foundations which must
be removed from their current locations must be removed to a depth of three (3) feet.
Foundations may be disposed of on the Old Refuse Pile provided that they are covered by a
minimum of four (4) feet of cover material prior to application of topsoil. Foundations which
will be buried by a minimum of four (4) feet of cover material as a result of grading operations
do not require removal.
An average of twelve (12) inches of topsoil will be placed over approximately five (5) acres
of the facility. The volume of topsoil to be distributed is approximately 8,000 cubic yards.
The topsoil will be partially derived from an adjacent topsoil stockpile, and partially from
material which may be imported from the lower topsoil stockpile near the Sutey Refuse Pile.
Compaction of the topsoil on the refuse pile will be accomplished up and down slopes so that
the track-machine grouser marks are parallel to the contour.
Measurement and Payment
There will be no measurement for payment for foundation removal/burial, grading work and
topsoil placement. Payment for these portions of the task will be reflected in a lump sum bid
under Task 3 (Earth Work) on the Bid Schedule. This lump sum bid will cover payment of all
costs for excavation, and grading of the waste rock and refuse materials, and transport and
placement of the topsoil. Payment shall be as this task is completed and approved by the
PROJECT MANAGER.
TASK 4 SURFACE DRAINAGES
Sutey Refuse Disposal Area
A total of ten (10) drainage ditches will be constructed in the vicinity of the Sutey Refuse
Disposal Area. The ten ditches consist of six (6) diversions to be constructed on the refuse
disposal facility, a stream channel diversion, and three other off-facility diversions. The
ditches will be constructed concurrent with grading operations on the Sutey Pile. Refer to
Map 4, Sutey Refuse Disposal Facility, for the approximate location of each ditch. Task 4 is
divided into ten 0 0) sub-tasks, a through j, as indicated on the Bid Schedule.
Ditches 3, 5, 6, 7 will be constructed on existing benches across the face of the pile. Ditch
3 will be partially constructed across the face of the pile and partially constructed on an
existing access road which is cut into the coal refuse. The total length of these four ditches
will be approximately 4,150 feet. These four ditches will be triangular in shape, and will be
constructed to a total depth of one foot as measured from the bottom center of the ditch to
the crest of the ditch. Side slopes will be no steeper than 2H:1 V. Ditch width as measured
from crest to crest shall be no less than four feet (Cross Section 1). Upon completion of
excavation, the channel will be broadcast seeded with the Sutey Diversion Mixture at a rate
of sixty (60) pounds per acre. The seed will be provided by the PROJECT MANAGER. The
entire channel length and width shall be lined with fabric which will consist of a natural
material such as American Excelsior Corlex Double Net or equivalent having ultra-violet
stabilized nets. The fabric shall be installed as per manufacturers specifications.
8
