a
8. Disturbance of Spoil Placed on the Outsiope
The pre -law spoil outslopes at the portal areas (see enclosed mine
maps) are extremely steep and are not accessible to machinery or
workers. Gullies do exist in some slope areas and natural
revegetation has been sparse.
During mine operation, Mid- Continent has not disturbed these spoil
slopes. Berms and sediment ponds on the bench areas kept runoff
away from the slopes. When the upper portion of the spoil slopes
are excavated to obtain material for backfilling, it is possible
that some material will roll over the edge. This is unavoidable and
will not result in any damage to the environment.
Once the cut and fill work is completed for each bench area, Mid -
Continent will attempt to seed and mulch as much of the spoil slope
as possible from the top of the bench. A high power blower or
hydromulcher will likely be used.
