APPENDIX C10-
Pa ge 2
The 1968 General Plan projects some development keyed
to the Sunlight Ski Area, however, to date this area
of the County has not developed into the necessary
recreational base that would support intensive
residential development. As long as the Sunlight Ski
Area remains essentially a local use ski area, this
would not seem to be likely to happen in the future.
(4) Garfield County supports the intelligent harvesting
of timber in the area, with road access restricted
to the public and conflicts with wildlife and
natural environmxental systems of prime importance
in the timbering plans. Continued and increased
harvest of this resource and grazing resources
should be pursued to the extent that the roadless
area and the wilderness character of the entire
unit is not damaged.
I hope these observations and points aid the Forest Service in their
planning effort for this unit of the National Forest.
Sincerely,
RAW/kay Robert A. Witkowski
Director
39
