FAVORABLE ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
1. None of the ski area development would be visible from Highway 133
or any place in the Crystal River Valley unless an aerial tramway
is constructed from near Redstone to the 9,663` point as mentioned
in the report.
2. The basic facilities are in place or can be readily modified to
meet the needs of a ski area.
3. The annual precipitation varies from 25" to over 35" mostly (70%)
in the form of snow.*
4. The Redstone Lodge and other existing overnight accommodations and
restaurants in Redstone, as well as the ski area, would derive
immediate benefits from such a development.
5. There are no endangered or threatened wildlife species within the
area.*
6. The elk calving area (nearest portion) in upper Braderich Creek is
nearly 1,000' higher and a mile north of the preparation plant and
road corridor along Coal Creek.*
7. No winter game range is affected.*
8. The higher mountain slopes and ridges are well-ventilated and have a
very low air pollution potential. Lateral dispersion is unrestricted
and the locations at higher elevations are above the level of
immersion in adjacent valleys, allowing unimpeded vertical mixing.*
* From the Draft Environmental Statement prepared in 1976 by the Forest
Service for the Thompson Creek Land Use Plan and submitted to the Council
on Environmental Quality.
-16-
