COAL BASIN MINE PERMIT APPLICATION <br /> MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES , INC . <br /> CARBONDALE, COLORADO <br /> CHAPTER VI <br /> POSTMINING LAND USE <br /> A. Description cf Proposed Use <br /> Coal Basin, including over sixty percent of the Mine <br /> Plan Area , has been in the jurisdiction and under management <br /> of the U. S . Forest Service since 1913 . It is within the <br /> Thompson Creek planning unit of the White River National <br /> Forest . The majority of the disturbed areas within the <br /> permit area are on fee lands held by Mid-Continent . However , <br /> there are some disturbed areas on U. S . Forest Service land <br /> consisting of roads , powerline right-of-ways and waste <br /> disposal sites which are being utilized under Forest Service <br /> Special Use Permits . <br /> Postmining land use is planned in accordance with the <br /> direction and goals of the U. S . Forest Service (U . S . F . S . ) . <br /> Postmining land use , like premining land use, will incorporate <br /> long-standing U. S . F . S . policy to administer the national <br /> forest for outdoor recreation, range, timber , watershed , <br /> wildlife and fish purposes . <br /> Land use planning for Coal Basin, as a part of the <br /> national forest , has incorporated the directive of the <br /> Multiple Use Sustained Yield Act of 1960 (P . L. 86-517) , <br /> which declares that for development and administration of <br /> -1- <br />
