COAL BASIN MINE PERMIT APPLICATION
MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES , INC .
CARBONDALE, COLORADO
CHAPTER VI
POSTMINING LAND USE
Preface
The postmining land use plan, as outlined in this
chapter , is based on the belief by Mid-Continent that a
portion of the disturbed area should be restored to a higher
or better use than the premining uses of wildlife, grazing
and light recreation. That higher or better use is a ski
area along the southern (northern facing) portion of Coal
Basin.
Since specific and feasible plans cannot be submitted
to the Division at this time showing that financing , attain-
ment and maintenance of the ski area concept will be feasible
some 40 years in the future, this recreational concept
becomes an alternative use concept that must await approval
toward the end of the 40 year mining program.
Consequently, the primary postmining land uses will be
assumed to be the same as the premining uses , and the reclama-
tion plan (and bonding) have been revised accordingly .
Wherever the ski recreation area plan is mentioned throughout
this chapter , it must be understood that it is an alternative
to the premining uses that , hopefully, will be approved
toward the end of the mining program.
iii (Chap . VI)
