He had served with the <br /> Forest Service since 1945 . <br /> His work for the Forest Service included over <br /> fifty area feasibility reports and recommendations for the <br /> Rocky Mountain Region (R-2) in Colorado and Wyoming , plus a <br /> few in New Mexico and Arizona (R-3) , including Vail , Snow- <br /> mass , Copper Mountain , Aspen Highlands , Breckenridge , <br /> Sunlight , Lake Eldora , Powderhorn, Medicine Bow, Arizona <br /> Snow-Bowl, Beaver Creek and Buttermilk Mountain. <br /> During the late 1960s , Mr . Hauk prepared the <br /> inventory, including fieldwork and abstracts , for nearly <br /> twenty potential ski area sites on the White River National <br /> Forest . He headed the site selection team for the 1976 <br /> Winter Olympics bid by Denver . Copper Mountain, the ski <br /> area selected as first choice for the Olympic bid , had been <br /> recommended by Mr . Hauk for development in 1954 . <br /> In planning for the post-mining land use , Mid- <br /> Continent has relied , in particular , on the following find- <br /> ings of the Hauk study : <br /> Favorable Environmental Factors <br /> - None of the ski area development would be <br /> visible from Highway 133 or any place in <br /> the Crystal River Valley unless an <br /> aerial tramway is constructed from near <br /> Redstone to the 9 , 633 ' point as mentioned <br /> in the report . <br /> - The basic facilities are in place or can <br /> be readily modified to meet the needs of <br /> a ski area . <br /> - The annual precipitation varies from 25" <br /> -11- <br />
