. LP /cjm
-The bulkheads would restore an approximation of the pre- mining
water table by shutting off the preferential groundwater
drainage paths created by the tunnels. This would allow the
draw down cone to refill and the flows to revert back to
natural flow paths. The base flow of the Animas River will be
reduced initially by approximately 1.77 MGD (0.31 MGD from
Eureka Creek and 1.46 MGD from Cement Creek) . This reduction
would decrease as the draw down cone is refilled and flow goes
back to natural paths to the drainage (s) either as surface
runoff or groundwater. This period of refilling to
equilibrium is estimated to take from 1 year to 20 years. In
the 1 year case the total flow would be filling the draw down
cone. In the 20 year case, the water diverted to the draw
down cone would decrease asymptotically..
Please call if you need additional information to understand the
proposal to the Division or to make a determination as to any water
rights conflict with existing holders of record or if Sunnyside
Gold would need water rights to pursue this concept.
cc: Allen Sorenson, CDMG
Sincerely,
•
Larry Perino
Superintendent - Technical Services
