May 21, 2012 C- 1994- 082/Yoast Mine SLB
needed repair work where downcutting had occurred in the water bar crossing.
The surge strictures constructed in the north pit area last fall were in good condition. The structures were all dry,
but it was apparent that water had been temporarily impounded during runoff The ditches between the strictures
were in good condition. There was a gully along the reclaimed temporary roadway to the surge strictures,
extending about 75' westward from the property line fence separating the north mine area.
REVEGETATION Rule 4.15 Vegetative Cover; Timing:
There was a considerable amount of houndstongue and thistle around the Pond 012 slide repair area and
along LU -5, near Pond 013. Vegetation in the southern section of the permit area looked good; the weed spraying
done last year in this area appeared to have been effective thus far.
The shrubs planted between Ponds 012 and 012A looked very healthy and were leafing out nicely. The shrubs
planted in the north pit last fall also looked good; there appeared to be a high survival rate. There was still a fair
amount of weeds (houndstongue and thistle) that will need to be treated in this plot this year
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
The Pond 012 slide repair area was stable, with no sign of any movement since the repair work was
completed. There was also very little erosion on the repaired slope face.
A crack has developed on the Pond 013 slide, roughly parallel to the original scarp line, and approximately 20'
from the upper edge of the scarp. The crack is roughly 34 inches wide, and appears to be shallow in depth.
The neck pit slide appeared to be stable, with no evidence of any movement since the scarp area grading occurred.
There was standing water on the west side of the shrub enclosure. An underdrain in this area may be warranted to
prevent further movement. The Division will consult with CGS on this area during the next CGS evaluation.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED — 1S Quarter DMRs and pond inspection reports.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 12
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 3 of 7
