Site Reclamation Activity
4/94 - 3/95
Page 3
3) amendment and fertilization of a portion of the borrow areas.
The remaining portion was untreated to judge the vitality of
the existing vegetation.
Amendment consisted of applying limestone to increase soil
buffering capacity. The application rate was at 2000
lbs/acre.
Fertilization consisted of treatment with liquid fertilizer
(17N 8P 2K) at 50 gal/acre. Growth at this site is good.
4) fertilization of the small area below the #4 settling pond.
Fertilization consisted of treatment with liquid fertilizer
(17N 8P 2K) at 50 gal/acre. Growth in this area is sparse but
better than expected.
5) a reduction in minesite buildings and structures.
The changeroom complex was reduced from six units to two units
and an oil storage shed was removed from the property. The
office trailer, removed during the 1993 report year , was taken
offsite by the same company that removed the changeroom units.
6) removal of historic Lead Carbonate tailings in and under the
waste dump continued.
The old tailings underlay a portion of the waste dump. In
order to remove these tailings, the dump material had to be
removed. This material was hauled to the Mayflower Mill -
Tailings Pond #4 and will help provide material for final
reclamation grades in this area.
7 ) repair of stormwater diversions.
8) treating the water discharge from the portal according to the
CDPS Permit for this discharge. This treatment includes
periodic cleaning of the settling ponds with a mudcat dredge
and tanker trucks. The material removed was hauled to the
Mayflower Mill - Tailings Pond #4.
There were no permit exceedences during the 1994 reporting
year.
Activities planned for 1995 are;
1) annual site cleanup.
2) maintenance of and possibly upgrading some stormwater drainage
controls.
3) maintenance and operation of the water treatment system for
the portal discharge in compliance with the CDPS Permit for
this discharge.
