1995 Annual Update
Sunnyside Mine Bulkheads
>age 4
- Potential sites for deletion
o Seep 16 could not be found during the 1994 field season.
If it does not resurface during the 1995 field season it
should be considered for deletion.
o Seep 11 is probably a stream (drainage exiting talus at
headwaters in Eureka Creek) and is located at the upper
elevation limit (12,200') for the study. Bulkheading the
portal flows could not influence flows or quality at this
site.
- Data Analysis
The bulkhead valves have not been closed therefore, the data
generated todate on seeps, springs and flowing adits is
background data for conditions existing pre - bulkhead.
Included in the Appendix is a section on data analysis. For
the samples taken todate, this section lists the sample count,
mean value, standard deviation, maximum value and minimum
value for each seep, spring and flowing adit sample site.
This section will be further expanded when potential
correlations between the sites and mine pool elevation can be
made.
The standard deviation is significant as a percentage of the
mean value for a large percentage of the sites. This
information will be used to prioritize the sites selected for
samples during the upcoming field season.
o Cement Creek
There are 15 monitoring sites in this drainage plus the
mainstem site CC1. Flowing adits comprise 6 of the 15
sites. One seep site (S16) did not reappear during the
1994 field season and is a candidate for deletion from
the study. Two of the shallow draining adits do not flow
except for the early season monitoring session.
o South Fork of Cement Creek
There are 11 monitoring sites in this drainage plus the
mainstem site SF17. Flowing adits comprise 2 of the 11
sites. One of these portals has higher flow in the fall
while the other has its highest flow in the early
sampling session.
o Eureka Gulch
There are 8 monitoring sites in this drainage plus the
mainstem site EC34. Only one flowing adit has been
sampled and its flow appears to be seasonal.
