Site Reclamation Activity
April 1999 - March 2000
Page 11
MONITORING - Settling, phreatic water levels
Included in Appendix A are settlement monitoring data for Tailings
Pond No.4 and phreatic water level monitoring for Tailings Pond
No.4 .
Tailings Pond No.4 settling and phreatic level monitoring does not
reveal any adverse trends. The phreatic level remained low since
pond reduction occurred.
MONITORING - Bulkheads
Monitoring of the bulkhead pressure gage in the American Tunnel was
performed more often than required by TR-14 . This information is
included in Appendix A. As of April 10, 2000, the pressure was 420
psi which reflects a pool surface elevation of 11, 624 feet MSL.
During each monitoring visit, the tunnel and bulkhead are inspected
for changes. No changes have been noted to-date.
The Terry Tunnel bulkhead was inspected in June, September, and
twice in October 1999 to sample and inspect for performance
according to• the design and to open and close the bulkhead valve
for pumping of pond water into the mine pool to maintain a no
discharge status from the surface settling ponds. The above normal
precipitation during 1999 did not allow precipitation and
infiltration to match tunnel discharge (mostly near surface
fracture flow) as it does normally.
Bulkhead pressure was read on each inspection. On October 20 1999
the gage pressure was 22psi which corresponds to a pool surface
elevation of 11, 6061 MSL which agreed with the American Tunnel
pressure readings within the accuracy of the gages. No problems
were observed at the bulkhead during these visits. .
