January 2000 Monthly Report
Page 3
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active throughout the month of January
with the entire flow being diverted for treatment with the lower American Tunnel flow.
The January 2000 monitoring results for; dissolved metals in the AT-004 discharge;
Cement Creek (CC-1B); American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-INFEL); and
Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-20) are attached.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on January 5, 2000. The other three gaging
stations (A-68, C-48 and M-34) were sampled by the Bureau of Reclamation. The results
for Sunnyside's A-72 sample are attached.
The provisional flow at A-72 on January 5, 2000 was 87 cfs, which places this sample
result in the low flow category (Q<100cfs). The dissolved zinc value for this sample,
obtained by averaging the results from two labs, was 560 ug/l.
The index number for the January sample is calculated as follows:
Xi = 560
Xf= 519
Sf= 124
Ni = (Xi—X0 /Sf
Ni = (560 — 519)/124
Ni =+0.33
The index number graph and updated reporting table are attached.
Evaluation of the normalized data:
The index value of +0.33 for January, 2000 indicates that the dissolved zinc
concentration at the reference point A-72 was slightly higher than the mean value of the
reference data for the low flow class. In comparison to the January 6, 1999 sample result,
the concentration is lower(560 ug/1 verses 725 ug/1) and the flow comparable.
