February 2000 Monthly Report
Page 3
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active throughout the month of
February with the entire flow being diverted for treatment with the lower American
Tunnel flow.
The February 2000 monitoring results for; dissolved metals in the AT-004 discharge;
Cement Creek (CC-1B); American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-INFEL); and
Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-20) are attached.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) and the other three gaging stations (A-68,
C-48 and M-34) on February 2, 2000. The results for these samples are attached.
The provisional flow at A-72 on February 2, 2000 was 84 cfs, which places this sample
result in the low flow category (Q<100cfs). The dissolved zinc value for this sample,
obtained by averaging the results from two labs, was 611 ug/l.
The index number for the February sample is calculated as follows:
Xi =611
Xf= 519
Sf= 124
Ni = (Xi —Xf)/Sf
Ni = (611 — 519)/124
Ni = +0.74
The index number graph and updated reporting table are attached.
Evaluation of the normalized data:
The index value of +0.74 for February, 2000 indicates that the dissolved zinc
concentration at the reference point A-72 was higher than the mean value of the reference
data for the low flow class. In comparison to the February 4, 1999 sample result, the
concentration is lower (61 l ug/l verses 650 ug/1) and the flow comparable.
