I st Quarter/March 2000 Monthly Report
Page 3
• Tailings Pond No. 4 Upland Groundwater Diversion
This project was completed in December but due to snow accumulation in the project
area, project inspection by DMG will not be possible until spring.
Out-falls for this project were visible at quarter end and the combined flow was estimated
to be greater than 100gpm. It was not possible to determine what proportion of this
quantity might be attributable to the project.
There were no progress pictures taken during the quarter due to snow-cover.
Cement Creek Diversion and Water Treatment
Cement Creek diversion and water treatment was active throughout the month of March
and the I" quarter with the entire flow being diverted for treatment with the lower
American Tunnel flow.
The March 2000 monitoring results for; dissolved metals in the AT-004 discharge;
Cement Creek (CC-IB); American Tunnel flow before treatment (AT-INFEL); and
Cement Creek below the AT-004 discharge point (CC-20) are attached.
Mainstem Stream Monitoring and Reference Point Stream Monitoring
Sunnyside sampled the reference point (A-72) on March 1, 2000. The other three gaging
stations (A-68, C-48 and M-34) were sampled by B.O.R.. The results for the A-72 sample
taken by Sunnyside are attached
The provisional flow at A-72 on March I, 2000 was 43 cfs, which places this sample
result in the low flow category (Q<100cfs). The dissolved zinc value for this sample,
obtained by averaging the results from two labs, was 598 ug/l.
The index number for the February sample is calculated as follows:
Xi = 598
Xf= 519
Sf= 124
Ni = (Xi — Xf) /Sf
Ni = (598 — 519)/124
Ni = +0.64
