December Monthly/41h Quarter 1999 Report Page 2 Confirmation of completion by CDPHE has been received for two of these projects— Surface Mill Tailings at Eureka and Ransom Tunnel. Sunnyside has not received confirmation of completion from CDPHE for the remaining five projects although Sunnyside submitted completion certifications in October, 1997. • Sunnyside Mine Pool Mitigation—Alkaline Solution Injection This project was not active in December of 1999. The water pool pH, at the American Tunnel bulkhead, was 4.88 and the bulkhead gage read 420.5 psi at the end of December. This would indicate that a rise in the mine pool occurred since the end of November (1 foot). Sunnyside will continue to monitor these parameters. "B List" Projects • Columbus Mine Portals— Mine Waste Dumps • London Mine Portals—Waste Dumps Work, permitting or arrangement for access is not planned until it becomes evident that the work plans for these projects require implementation. • Mayflower Facility— Upland Hydrological Control This project was completed in October, 1999 and accepted by DMG as complying with the Consent Decree work plans and MLR Standards in November, 1999. • Tailings Pond No. 4 Surface Drainage Modification This project was completed in November, 1999 and accepted by DMG as complying with the Consent Decree work plan and MLR Standards. Progress pictures for this project are attached • Tailings Pond No. 4 Upland Groundwater Diversion Sunnyside had been holding discussions with BLM to implement this project in exchange for an area to place material from their Lackawanna mill tailings remediation project. Since it became apparent that the work on this project would not be completed by BLM in the allotted time frame, Sunnyside assumed project construction. This project was completed in December but due to snow accumulation in the project area, project inspection by DMG will not be possible until spring.
