MAYFLOWER MILL AREA: (Cont. )
(2) Boulder Creek (BC-1 , BC-2) , Table 4 and Table 5.
As in the past TDS, TSS and some dissolved metals are higher
at BC2 below the Tailings Ponds . The extensive work
regrading and covering Pond #2 the summer 1991 should better
the situation considerably.
An acute bioassay screen using Ceriodaghnia dubia was taken
at BC1 above the mill oroperty with the April 1991 sample
for background information. Only 2 out of the 20 organisms
survived.
(3) Engineering Office Monitoring Wells (EOMW-1 , F.OMW-2) , Table
6 and Table 7 , Figure 2.
Water levels show no significant change in recent
measurements . Water quality is expected to be the same in
both wells as they are located within 150 feet of each other
in the same general area. Water level trends follow
closely, however it is observed that the zinc level in EOMW2
is around 2 times higher than that in EOMW1 at times . All
other parameters such as TDS, sulfate and other metals are
reasonably the same. A sample will be taken in July 1991 as
well as October in the interest of spotting_ a trend if one
exists .
(4) 'Pailincs Pond #3 Monitoring Wells (TP3-07 ,04) Figure 1 .
The site Man has been corrected to properly indicate that
TP3-04 is on the west end of the pond and TP3-07 is on the
east end. Water levels in the wells continue to show little
variation .
(5) Animas River (AR-3 . 5 , AR-4 ) , Table 8 and Table 9.
Water duality above and below the mill continues to be
generally the same. The Spring 1991 sampling showed
somewhat higher Zinc levels at AR4 below the mill which may
be attributable to higher than normal zinc levels in Boulder
Creek that day. (See BC2 Table 5) . Increased manganese is
also noted below the Mill . Note many metals such as Cd, Cu ,
Cr, Pb and Ho are low or below detection limits at AR4 .
AR3 . 5 uas sampled for hardness numerous times through the
year as the receiving water base line in biomonitoring at
the Mill effluent , MF002. AR3 . 5 is found to be toxic to
Ceriodapnnia dubia as 5 out of 20 survived in testing Spring
1990 and 0 out of 20 survived in testing Spring 1991 . Acute
test or screens were run for background information.
- 8 -
