Nesting and prey base is abundant . <br /> Golden eagles are common in Colorado but have not been known <br /> to hunt the permit area, although the prey base is avail- <br /> able . Bald eagles winter along the Colorado River near <br /> Glenwood Springs but do not use the permit or adjacent <br /> areas . <br /> The most common raptors are the Red- <br /> tailed Hawks and Great Horned Owls . <br /> Wild turkeys (Figure III-I-4) have been <br /> residing in Coal Creek about 4 mile northwest of the Coal <br /> Basin preparation plant . However , the severe winter of <br /> 1978-1979 seems to have forced the birds from this location <br /> because they were not sighted during 1979 . <br /> Birds common to the area include : Blue <br /> Grouse ; Goshawk; Gray Jay; Mountain Blue Bird ; Kestrel ; <br /> Black Billed Magpie; Rock Wren; Horned Lark; White Crowned <br /> Sparrow and Rosy Finch . <br /> -12- <br />
