As noted in the U . S . Forest Service report on the
"Past and Present Condition of Range and Wildlife Resources in
Coal Basin, " some small areas were overgrazed in the 1940 ' s .
Corrective management was instituted in 1945 and , with
management, range quality gradually improved . A new range
study was completed in 1979-80 and recommendations for the
1981 grazing allotments are now being considered . Preliminary
data indicate that parts of Coal Basin are presently over-
grazed .
5 . Rare and Endangered Species
The studies of the mine plan area have identified
no plants that are included in state or federal lists of
threatened or endangered species .
