Gllm Molybdenum Comp _iy
A DIVISION OF
1^AA AL W uwr_
III IIIIIIIIIIIII'll
999
May 26, 1987
I
Mr. David A. Berry f
Reclamation Specialist
Mined Land Reclamation Division [4,AY 9 1987
423 Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street V,* LAiN
Denver, Colorado 80203-2273
Dear Dave:
In reply to your request for information concerning the reclamation of
our Arkansas Aggregate area, we offer the following answers to the
questions you raised with our Mr. Jeff Todd on February 25, 1987.
1. With the exception of several natural slopes that are steeper
than 3H:1V, we see no problem with meeting slope require-
ments. It is our plan to distribute the stockpiled topsoil
and revegetate per our plan.
2. We have discussed this project with the district office of
the Army Corps of Engineers, and no formal approval is neces-
sary for this relocation.
3. It is planned to leave the existing diversion channel in
place, with the only modification to it being the breach in
its extreme upstream end. The reasons for this are two-fold:
first, the Corps of Engineers requires a proof period of at
least one year prior to disturbing the channel , to prove the
river will not return to it. Secondly, the aggregate re-
serves still exist in the area, and the existence of the di-
version channel will be essential to future development of
these reserves.
4a. We understand your concern of the reconstruction of perennial
stream channels. The upstream portion of the river will be
returned to an undisturbed portion of the natural riverbed.
We plan to utilize the existing settling ponds with their
properly sized concrete spillway to slow the velocity of the
river. Downstream sedimentation should not be a problem
since all work will be completed prior to returning the river
to its channel .
4b. There should be no acid producing materials retained or re-
leased during this work, since all such material is being
removed to another site. This work is being coordinated with
the Department of Health.
Climax, Colorado 80429 Phone: C303) 486-2150 TWX: 910-920-4326
