This process is necessary for a
thoughtful discussion of the issues with the Division
and the Board. These studies will not be completed
until mid-November at the earliest.
3. Problems with fugitive particulate emissions from the
taiing ponds at the Climax Mine occur during the
snow-free period after the tails dry. This period
generally is from mid-June to mid-October when snows
again begin to accumulate on the tailing dam faces.
Since snow presently is beginning to cover the tailing
areas for the winter , it is unlikely that other
possible violations will occur this year; thus ,
granting the additional time AMAX is requesting should
not exacerbate the existing situation.
AMAX Inc. appreciates the Division' s consideration of this
request. We believe that granting this continuance is in
the best interests of all parties .
S i nc re ly,,.,,
Je frey W.
