After discussing this <br /> situation with Mr. David Berry of your staff, AMAX Inc. <br /> respectfully requests a continuance to the November Board <br /> meeting for the following reasons: <br /> 1 . An inspection of the Climax Mine by the Colorado Air <br /> Pollution Control Division on September 18, 1986 <br /> indicated that a fugitive particulate emissions <br /> problem existed on that day relative to the tailing <br /> ponds. The inspection report further states that AMAX <br /> Inc. must . . . "submit a written control plan for <br /> controlling and limiting fugitive particulate <br /> emissions from the tailing impoundments to the <br /> Division (APCD) by October 31 , 1986. " A copy of the <br /> inspection report is attached. Since Mr. Berry <br /> indicated that the MLRD wishes to coordinate efforts <br /> relative to blowing tails with the APCD, this required <br /> control plan also would be submitted to the MLRD and <br /> the Board. The plan will not be available until after <br /> the Board has convened in October. <br /> 2. AMAX Inc. is exploring alternatives for a long-term <br /> solution to fugitive particulate emissions from the <br /> tailing dam faces at the Climax Mine . Particular <br /> emphasis is being directed toward the Robinson Tailing <br /> Dam #1 since episodes of blowing tails generally <br /> originate at that source. This requires detailed and <br />
