The Division has recommended larger rip rap size - the D51 riprap
size mostly around 1 foot in diameter, and has prepared a table of
the recommended sizes, based on an assumption of a riprap size
averaging about 13 inches in diameter. These riprap sizes do seem
quite large to us, but we will accept the recommendation of the
Division, anticipating that smaller size material will be placed
beneath the very large rock (otherwise the water would simply flow
beneath the big rocks, eroding the base of the embankment) , and the
very large rocks would be placed down the embankment.
In my letter of September 27, responding to the Division's previous
review, I proposed that TR-18 materials should be placed at Vol. 3 ,
App. II-B-7 as pages 45-47. I would propose this letter, together
with the correspondence from MLRD concerning the riprap sizing, as
pages 51-54. I have noted at the bottom of these pages as well
that they related to TR-18, a revision of 10/91 and these are
attached for insertion in the permit.
Yours truly,
C
Diane Delaney
Mid-Continent Res.
TR-18
52 10/91
