maintenance activities connected with the mining operation are
located in this vicinity. These include offices, maintenance
shops, oil and gas storage facilities, power transmission lines,
parking lot, etc.
A drainage and sediment control plan for this high activity
area, prepared by the David E. Fleming Company in May, 1978, was
adopted and has been implemented. Attachment 3 of this Appendix
(II-B-7-Att. 3) contains those portions of the Fleming report
that are pertinent to the preparation plant area. One sediment
pond of the series has been removed.
The drainage plan has been updated as a result of new
construction (blending bins) in the plant area. Please note
the revised sediment pond calculations chart on the last
page of this attachment.
E. Rock Tunnel Area Drainage Control Plan
Surplus water from the mine is discharged through
the Adit/Rock Tunnel and routed to the lower tunnel pond series
through a 12" pipeline. Surface water from the portal area
is collected in a diversion ditch system and conveyed to
NPDES pond #025.
Since the rock tunnel portal area facilities are on both
sides of the South Fork of Dutch Creek, all facilities are
constructed above the 100 year flood plain and the normal creek
runoff is routed through the portal area. To move equipment
and rock spoil from one side of the creek to the other, cross-over
culverts have been installed that will handle the peak flow
of the creek from the 100 year, 24 hour storm event.
