COAL BASIN MINE PERMIT APPLICATION <br /> MID-CONTINENT RESOURCES , INC . <br /> CARBONDALE , COLORADO <br /> APPENDIX II-B-7 <br /> HYDROLOGIC CONTROL PLAN <br /> A. General <br /> The hydrologic control plan for the Coal Basin permit <br /> area is designed to divert surface water around disturbed <br /> areas where possible, collect all water drained from mines <br /> and flowing out of disturbed areas , hold it in sedimentation <br /> ponds until its total suspended solids content meets Federal <br /> and State standards , treat it if it is polluted , release <br /> it into the Coal Creek drainage system and monitor its <br /> quality to insure that the required standards are being <br /> met . The plan consists of a complex system of mine drainage <br /> facilities, collection or diversion ditches , -and sedimenta- <br /> tion ponds . All are designed to meet Federal and State <br /> engineering specifications . <br /> B . Mine Portal Area Drainage And Sediment Control Plan <br /> The plan being followed by Mid-Continent was developed <br /> by Morrison-Knudsen Company, Inc . and consists of a system <br /> of diversion ditches , culverts and sedimentation ponds . <br /> All drainage from the mines and the surface disturbed areas <br /> in and around the five mine portals is diverted into <br /> sedimentation ponds and held until the excess total suspended <br /> solids in the water have settled out . <br /> 1 <br />
