Chapter II
(1) Overland Conveyor -
Mine to Raw Coal Storage.
The overland conveyor system which carries coal from the mine to the preparation
plant is a covered belt, 48" wide, which extends 5,350'. The segment of belt line
which extends from the Adit/Rock Tunnel to the first transfer is 3600' long; the
segment extending to the M-bed coal stockpile is 350' long; to the B-bed coal
stockpile is 650' long.
The section extending over the tunnel yard is elevated on trusses and bents. The
section from the transfer point to the M-bed storage pile is elevated, on trusses,
over the road. From raw coal storage to the preparation plant hopper, the belt runs
through a tunnel.
There are six (6) transfer stations, constructed of steel, on the belt line.
The MLRD approved construction of the overland conveyor system as a Technical
Revision on June 22, 1984.
(2) Preparation Plant to Sutey Pile.
The belt system from the Wash Plant to the Sutey Pile is 36" wide and 1380' long.
The entire system is covered, for dust control. In addition, the belt is turned at the
end so as to prevent dust from falling on the ground beneath. The system has been
raised above-ground on bents and trusses.
MR-6, approved October 26, 1987, approved extension of the refuse belt conveyor
an additional 1150 feet, from the refuse pile along the west side of the adjoining
ridge. The conveyor and supports will be constructed in the same manner as the
existing belt.
g. Utility Corridors.
(1) Powerlines.
Exhibit II-B-4 a through d shows the existing power lines.
Mid-Continent gets electric power from the Public Service Co. grid. A 69 KV
powerline delivers power to a substation (PSC Redstone Sub.) at the mine site. The
line generally parallels the road from Redstone to Coal Basin.
From the substation, 23 KV power lines extend to Main Entries #1,2,3,4 and 5, and
to the Adit/Rock Tunnel. The line to the Adit/Rock Tunnel, extending from the
substation to the portal, parallels the route of the overland conveyor.
22
