consisted of 73.6% live vegetation, 1.8% rock, 18.7% litter, and bare soil exposure of 6.0% (Table 3). <br />Perennial cover across the unit averaged 13.2% (down from 16.3% in 2010) with annual and biennial <br />cover averaging 60.4% (up from 38.0% in 2010). The dominant taxa were cheatgrass, greasewood, and <br />annual wheatgrass with 55.8 %, 6.1 %, and 3.8% average cover, respectively. Current total production <br />on the Greasewood Reference Area was 982 pounds per acre, with perennials contributing 104 pounds to <br />forage production (Table 5). <br />3.6 Shadscale Reference Area <br />The Shadscale Reference Area is located near the Roadside South Portal on the west- facing slope. <br />Ground cover in this area consisted of 50.1% live vegetation, 28.0% rock, 12.6% litter, and bare ground <br />exposure of 9.3% (Table 3). Perennial cover across the unit averaged 8.5% (up from 7.1% in 2010) <br />with annual and biennial cover averaging 41.0% (down from 43.2% in 2010) and noxious weed cover <br />averaging 0.7% (up from 0.5% in 2010). The dominant taxa were cheatgrass, shadscale, and galleta <br />(Hi /aria james /I) with 39.7 %, 3.0 %, and 1.5% average cover, respectively. Aggressive invasive species, <br />most not detected in cover sampling, were observed in the Shadscale Reference Area. These species <br />include musk thistle (Carduus nutans), and bindweed (Convo /vu /us arvensis).
