54. Some publicity has been given by DMG about its
volunteer tree planting program in Coal Basin. Please explain
what percent of tree planting has been or is proposed for
volunteers and what are the costs of this tree planting stock
and from where is it obtained? Are there documents relating
to these costs? If so, please attach a copy of such documents
to your responses to these interrogatories or state the
circumstances under which these documents may be inspected
and /or copied.
Response: No determination has been made as to what
percentage of trees will be planted by volunteers. In 1997,
volunteers planted approximately 3,500 trees near Mines 1, 2,
and 4 and adjacent to Road B.
The Division has obtained Tree stock from the Colorado
State Forest Service. The Division's January 23, 1998
Accounting, entitled Estimated Reclamation Costs by
Anticipated Project, estimates a slightly lower price per unit
in anticipation of volume discounts.
Documents pertaining to this interrogatory will be made
available for inspection at a mutually convenient time at the
Division's offices in Denver and \or Grand Junction.
55. If we read the DMG Reclamation Accounting
correctly, it contains cost figures for reclamation of the MCR
unit train loadout facility east of the Town of Carbondale.
Please explain what work has been or is proposed for this
facility by location, component and cost, where in the
approved Reclamation Plan this work is the responsibility of
MCR and where this is covered in the Reclamation Bond? If
this work is not covered by the approval Reclamation Bond,
what is the authority for it? Are there documents relating to
these costs? If so, please attach a copy of such documents to
your responses to these interrogatories or state the
circumstances under which these documents may be inspected
and /or copied.
Response: The work proposed by the Division to be
accomplished at the Loadout includes completing the structural
demolition which was incomplete in the fall of 1997, (this
assumes that Machinery and Equipment will not complete the
34
