The process flow for making the various rock dust products- is as
follows:
raw product (either limestone, magnetite, or nahcolite)
was fed through a grizzly onto a conveyor;
the conveyor carried the sized material to a dryer;
from the dryer it went to the ball mill or hammer mill;
the magnetite then went to a magnetic separator for
final separation while other products went to dust
collect6"rs 'and either to the bulk loadout or the
bagging bin;
dust collectors were installed in all of the process
circuits.
The above is a very general description of a crushing and drying
process. It should be noted here that variations to this
generalized approach are common. For instance, the process
varies somewhat between the limestone facility, the magnetite
facility, and the packwall facility. The packwall aggregate is
actually a mixture of the limestone dust and the magnetite dust.
4.7 FUEL STORAGE
4.7.1 Above-Ground Storage Tanks (ASTs)
Only one AST was found on site. The tank reportedly contained
diesel fuel used to run the front end loader. There is a small
area of stained soil at the base of the tank and around the fill
area indicating that minor leaks or spills have occurred in the
past. No other ASTs were encountered during the site survey.
4.7.2 Underground Storage Tanks (USTs)
No USTs were found during the site survey. Furthermore, a review
of the Colorado UST records indicate that there are no tanks in
the site vicinity which could affect the site.
4.8 WASTE HANDLING, STORAGE, AND DISPOSAL
4.8.1 Overview
R.D. Piland and Associates Consultants has no records of Pitkin
Iron's management of industrial wastes. Based upon discussions
with Mr. Neilson and Mr. Ware as well as R.D. Piland a general
understanding of the industrial processes described by Mr.
19
