two buildings having a total area of 8,704 square feet. Building
heights range from 10 to 78 feet with an average of 41 feet.
This results in a total enclosure of about 352 ,000 cubic feet.
Major components include overhead conveyors, a hammer mill, a 300
ton bulk storage bin, a bagging facility, drying equipment, and
electric controls. The rock dust plant is reported to have a
maximum design capacity of 20 tons per hour. The main building
was constructed in 1971 and other construction was reported
between 1971 and 1978.
The second facility is a magnetite plant which is attached to the
west end of the rock dust plant in a building with 3, 000 square
feet of floor area. The building height ranges from 10 to 32
feet with an average of 24 feet. This results in a total
enclosure of about 72,000 cubic feet. The magnetite facility
includes a ball mill, dryers, separators, conveyors, feeder, and
electric controls. Construction dates were reported for 1972,
1977, and 1978, with the main construction taking place in 1978.
The third facility is the packwall plant constructed in 1982 and
1983. This facility has an area of 1,759 square feet consisting
of an octagonal building with an attached rectangular building.
The building height ranges from 22 to 70 feet with an average of
about 55 feet. This results in a total enclosure of about 97,000
cubic feet. The packwall plant includes a ball mill, dryers, a
bulk storage bin, conveyors, feeders, a bagging facility, and
electric controls.
Other facilities include a 10 x 70 foot concrete platform scale
with a 60, 000 ton capacity (Photograph 20) , two metal sheds used
for miscellaneous storage, two metal sheds housing aggregate
sizing chutes (grizzlies) , paved parking and roadways, and a
cleared area capable of storing about 75,000 tons of raw material
(limestone) .
4.3 NEIGHBORING FACILITIES
East of the site is a lumber mill. Present activities at the
lumber mill involve pre-fabrication of log houses. No activities
at the lumber mill are anticipated to have environmental impact
on the subject property.
West of the site is Mid-Continent Resource's coal loading
facility (Photograph 21) . The facility is currently inactive.
The facility does hold a National Pollutant Discharge Elimination
System (NPDES) permit for storm water runoff. Because the runoff
discharges downstream from the site, the coal loading facility is
not likely to have any environmental impact on the subject
property.
North of the site are the D&RGW Railroad, Road 100, and
14
