Seeding may be done at any time ground conditions allow. However, the best time
to seed is in the fall of the year. Any compacted areas will be loosened by using either a disc or
plow, dependent upon the amount of compaction. Fertilizer will be applied at the rate 40 pounds
per acre of nitrogen (N) and 20 pounds per acre of phosphorus (P). This is the typical
recommendation of the NRCS.
(iii) State the grass, forb and tree species to be planted and the
application quantities. Specify the quantity of each grass and
forb species as pounds of pure live seed per acre:
Rangeland Seed Mix:
*Seeding rates are given in pound of Pure Live Seed (PLS * *)
** PLS = purity X germination
***If the seed is broadcast, the total pounds should be doubled.
(iv) Specify the application methods for grass and forb seeding,
drill seeding or broad cast:
The planned method of seed application will be to use a grass drill, equipped with depth bands
and packer wheels. The seedbed will be clean and as firm as possible to allow proper seeding.
(v) If mulch is needed, specify the kind to be used, the crimping
method, and rate of application:
Mulch is typically recommended by the NRCS at a rate of 2,000 pounds per Acre and it will be
weed free straw or native hay. It will be broadcast and then crimped to a depth of 1"-2" inches.
(vi) Explain the establishment methods for each species of shrub
and/or tree, and state the number of each to be established per
acre:
There are no plans to plant shrubs and/or trees on this site.
(d) Specify which ponds, streams, roads and buildings, if any, will remain
30
