periods, water drains through the piles, with the large waste marble blocks acting as a sediment trap. The
PH of the water runoff tends to be slightly high (basic) while Yule Creek water is more acidic, so the
result may be a slight improvement in the quality of Yule Creek water.
The quarry operation generates no acid or toxic materials. The waste generated by marble cutting is the
only by product of mining Maintenance of diesel powered equipment will take place underground.
Generated waste oil and other fluids from maintenance will be transported offsite and disposed of in an
appropriate matter. Other refuse will be transported offsite and be disposed of in an approved matter.
Colorado Stone expects no processing on site except for marble cutting or polishing operations. Such
processing will occur underground and involve no process chemicals. Finished marble blocks will be
stored at the Storage Area (storage area) in Marble, CO prior to shipping to customers.
The marble to be quarried is approximately 280 to 300 feet thick (true perpendicular thickness) in the
vicinity of the affected area. The marble seam dips to the west at approximately 25 to 28 degrees with a
strike of approximately North 26 degrees west.
The primary commodity produced is dimension stone in the form of white marble blocks. These may be
further processed off -site, for eventual sale to large and small marble installations shops around the
world. There are no incidental products to be produced by the quarry at the time of the 2010
Amendment but management is working to develop alternate markets for aggregate and fine products.
Explosives may be necessary to remove old waste marble during construction of sediment control
devices and roads. No blasting will be used underground at any time. Details about the blasting can be
found in subsection 6.0.
For a technical Revision in 2012, a new Portal #5 is proposed.
Portal #5 is a new portal which is an access into a higher portion of the marble deposit. This access is to
be 30 feet wide x 16 feet high, driven directly into the marble face. This portal is applied for in a TR of
April 2012.
Yule Quarry April 2012 16
