Ponds and Streams
In addition, unique or important sub-habitats will be
evaluated to document taxa that might otherwise be
overlooked in the general survey areas.
The sampling methods proposed for the various wildlife
groups are as follows.
Reptiles and Amphibians. Herpetofauna studies will consist
of genera macro- and micro-habitat searches, nocturnal
visits to amphibian breeding sites, tabulation of species
and habitat preference, and a literature search for species
of potential occurrence.
Avifauna. Four separate components of the avifauna will be
studied:
1. Passerines, migratory game birds (Mourning Dove)
2. Raptors
3. Upland game birds (Ringneck Pheasant)
4. Waterfowl
Avifauna studies will consist of:
1. Spring and fall belt transect surveys for
passerines, game birds, and other species (three
replications in each habitat except agricultural
areas) .
2. Road cruise frequency and pheasant crow counts
(two replications, spring and fall ) .
3. Ground surveys to determine the presence and
status of raptor nest and roost sites.
4. Pond counts to determine the presence and status
of waterfowl .
5. General reconnaisance, tabulation of species, and
habitat preference.
6. Literature search for species of potential
occurrence.
Small Mammals. Studies will consist of traplines in all
major habitats and unique or important sub-habitats, general
reconnaisance, and a literature search to document species
of potential occurrence.
