completed in the overburden aquifer and monitored strictly for water levels. The surface
water monitoring site, shown as an open diamond on Exhibit 7-1 , is proposed to be located
just upstream of the mining disturbance on Calamity Draw. This site, will be continuously
recorded for flow and periodically monitored for water quality.
All monitoring sites are referenced to as proposed at the present time. Their
installation is contingent on site accessibility and land owner approval . Alternate
locations will be considered, should site access or owner approval preclude using the
original locations. Reasonable efforts will be made to secure alternate locations before
any proposed sites would be abandoned.
As previously mentioned in the 1986 Nucla Mine permit revision package and restated in the
1978 Annual Hydrologic Report, Peabody is considering the installation of a surface water
monitoring site in the postlaw reclaimed area above County Road 124A-A at the Nucla Mine.
This monitoring site will be used to obtain surface water quality and flow data
representative of runoff from postlaw reclaimed areas for bond release purposes.
Installation of this site can only occur after regrading, retopsoiling and revegetation of
the disturbed areas has been achieved. After reclamation of this area has been completed
and prior to installation, Peabody will present to the CMLRD plans for construction of the
monitoring site and monitoring parameters and frequencies for approval.
Literature Cited
Lara, O.G. and J.
