SECTION 1: INTRCDUCTION .TO THE DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY
1 INTRODUCTION TO THE DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY
1.1 PURPOSE OF THE DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY
The DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY is a series of five computer programs which
assist civil engineers in solving common problems in hydraulics and hydrology.
Since most of the five programs in the series contain several computational
routines, the HYDRAULICS LIBRARY contains a total of twelve "tools" for
different situations.
The DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY offers all the following important features:
1) All computational routines are very easy to use. Data can be easily
entered and modified, so that several "trial runs" can be quickly
completed.
2) Instant "on-line" help is available at almost all times.
3) Complete reports can be printed for each computation. The printed reports
are suitable for project files or for submittal to regulatory agencies.
4) Graphs illustrating the results of many of the computational routines can
be displayed on a compatible computer screen or graphics printer.
The programs can be used on any IBM PC-compatible computer with at least 256K
of memory, a 360K disk drive, and PC DOS or MS DOS 2.11A or later. For screen
graphics, an IBM Color Graphics Adaptor or Hercules Monochrome Graphics
Adaptor or compatible device is required. For printer graphics, an Epson-
compatible printer is required. The DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY programs can
be used on a computer system without screen graphics capabilities, if graphs
are not desired.
1.2 DESCRIPTION OF HYDRAULICS LIBRARY PROGRAMS
The five programs in the DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY series include the
following:
The Trapezoidal Channel Analysis Program and the Circular Channel Analysis
Program: these programs can compute the Normal Depth, Critical Depth, a
Rating Curve, and a Standard Step Water Surface Profile for any
Trapezoidal or Circular Channel.
The Pipe Culvert Analysis Program and the Box Culvert Analysis Program:
these programs can compute a Culvert Performance Curve using current
Federal Highway Administration methods and equations.
The Detention Basin Sizing Program can compute the approximate volume and
surface area requirements for a stormwater detention basin. The program
can also compute the total runoff volume and peak rate of runoff from a
small drainage area using the Soil Conservation Service Graphical Method.
This program manual describes the operation of all five programs in the
series. If you have only purchased one or two of the individual programs from
DODSON & ASSOCIATES, INC. THE DODSON HYDRAULICS LIBRARY, PAGE 1
