Hypothesis Testing - "Background" Density
Use of a reverse -null t -test of the assertion that the 2010 BRB PSCM -1 Background woody plant density
exceeds 90% of the standard is shown as follows:
F— (0.9 * technical standard)
t, _
(
t _ 805.3- 180 -2.44
1404.3
Since critical t = 0.854 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 29 df) and t is greater than this critical value, a
hypothesis of no difference is rejected and reclamation success for Phase Ill background shrub density in
2010 is demonstrated.
Hypothesis Testing - Concentration Area Density
Use of a reverse -null t -test of the assertion that the 2010 BRB PSCM -1 Concentration Area woody plant
density exceeds 90% of the standard is shown as follows:
x — (0.9 * technical standard)
t _
(•171,
2092.2 —1800
t = — 148
( 1400.2\
Since critical t = 0.849 (one - tailed, alpha = 0.2, 49 df) and t is greater than this critical value, a
hypothesis of no difference is rejected and reclamation success for Phase Ill shrub concentration area
density in 2010 is demonstrated. Also note that the shrub concentration area in which adequate density
has been demonstrated occupies over 22 percent of BRB PSCM -1, well exceeding the minimum
requirement of 5 percent.
22
