+ d = 12.80 + (12.80 * 0.1580) = 14.82
24.39 percent allowable herbaceous cover represents the highest possible value of the true mean for the
Mountain Brush Reference Area.
[Note in the above two- tailed t values with n -1 degrees of freedom are used. We are concerning
ourselves with the full range of possible values for mean, thus bi- directional concerns are evident. From
the CDRMS point of view this pushes the limits out further and produces the highest maximum value for
the mean (at 90% confidence).]
Calculation of 90 percent of the cover performance standard appropriate for 2011 sampling using the
highest possible value for the Mountain Brush Reference Area component is demonstrated below.
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable First -Hit Herbaceous Cover *(14.8 %) X 2 = 29.6%
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable First -Hit Herbaceous Cover *(44.7 %) X 2 = 89.4%
90 percent of the Cover Standard = 0.90 [0.83(29.6 %) + 0.17(89.4 %)] = 35.8%
* Herbaceous cover adjusted by subtracting noxious weeds and annual /biennial plant cover in excess of 10% of the remainder.
The mean allowable first -hit herbaceous vegetation cover sampled in 2010 BRB PSCM -1 was 54.9
percent, exceeding 35.8 percent, which is 90 percent of the upwardly adjusted cover performance
standard (see also Figure C -1, Table C -1). Thus for 2010, successful revegetation with respect to
allowable first -hit herbaceous cover is indicated.
HERBACEOUS PRODUCTION
Calculation of 90 percent of the cover performance standard appropriate for 2010 sampling is
demonstrated below.
Mountain Brush Reference Area Allowable herbaceous production* = 483.6 lbs/acre
Sagebrush Reference Area Allowable herbaceous production *= 874.3 lbs/acre
90 percent of the Production Standard = 0.90 [0.83(483.6) + 0.17(874.3)] = 495.0 lbs/acre
* Herbaceous cover adjusted by subtracting noxious weeds and annual/biennial plant cover in excess of 10% of the remainder.
As can be seen in Figure 2, the 2010 BRB PSCM -1 mean allowable herbaceous production of 1974
pounds per acre far exceeded 90 percent of the production performance standard (495 lb/ac). The
average annual and biennial sampled 2010 BRB PSCM -1 production was not greater than 10 percent of
20
