Climatic Features
The climate is semi -arid with annual precipitation averaging 12 -17 inches with 60-70%
of the precipitation falling between March and September. Mostly snow in March and
April. The remainder of the precipitation occurs in the form of showers and intense rain
events.
The optimum growing scan for native plants is early spring and summer. The frost-
free period ranges from 120 -150 days. Plant Growth can begin anytime from March 15
to May 1. First killing frost average date is October 1. but can occur as early as
September 1. The average annual temperature is 49 degrees Fahrenheit with the hottest
temperatures occurring during the months of July and August.
