Jared Dains
South Platte Combined Replacement Plan
March 14, 2012
Distel Pit
(St. Vrain Basin)
Tull Pit
(St. Vrain Basin)
W.W. Farms Pit
(Lower Poudre Basin)
F- Street Pit
(Lower Poudre Basin)
East 8th Street Pit
(Lower Poudre Basin)
Page 4
Status: Mining operations at the Distel Pit were completed in 2011 and
reclamation is in progress. Depletions covered by this SWSP include
lagged depletions from dust control, dewatering, and past aggregate
production. Dewatering operations are expected to remain continual and
constant at a rate of 1,100 gallons per minute while reclamation activities
continue. The City of Longmont has assumed the augmentation
responsibilities for lagged and future depletions of evaporation. Longmont
has filed an augmentation plan in water court (case no. 09CW271) and is
responsible for obtaining a separate SWSP in conjunction with their court
case.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 69.2 acres (Longmont's responsibility)
Active Dewatering: Yes
Status: Mining operations have not started at Tucson South Pit, and are
not anticipated to commence until after 2012. This SWSP covers no
depletions at this site.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 0.0 acres
Active Dewatering: No
Status: Mining operations at the W.W. Farms Pit (aka Riverview
Resources) has been put on hold due to economic conditions. Depletions
covered by this SWSP include water lost due to evaporation, dewatering
and dust control. During Spring of 2011 the pit was flooded by the Poudre
River due to the high spring runoff conditions. The Applicant chose to
reduce the dewatering rate from 450 gallons per minute to 100 gallons per
minute and maintain a higher exposed surface area post -flood rather than
dewater back to pre -flood conditions. The entire exposed surface area is
assessed evaporative losses as this is an unlined pit. The Applicant has
filed an augmentation plan in water court (case no 90CW23) and will keep
this pit in this SWSP while the augmentation plan is pending.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 68.0 acres
Active Dewatering: Yes
Status: Mining operations at the F- Street Pit are complete and reclamation
is in progress. Depletions covered by this SWSP only include water lost
due to evaporation as lagged dewatering and operational depletions are no
longer accruing to the river.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 26.2 acres
Active Dewatering: No
Status: Mining operations at the East 8th Street Pit are projected to remain
on hold during 2012. Depletions covered by this SWSP include water lost
due to evaporation and post - pumping dewatering depletions.
Exposed Ground Water Surface: 5.8 acres
Active Dewatering: No
