5.3.3 Phased BMP Implementation
The types of structural and nonstructural BMPs that could be implemented during each
phase of construction are provided below. A description of the maintenance for
different types of structural BMPs that could be installed is provided in Section 8 of this
SWMP:
• Clearing and Grubbing
1. Temporary berms
2. Temporary diversion dike and /or ditch (DD)
3. Inlet protections (IP) — straw bale (StB), silt fence (SF), sediment control log
(SCL), gravel bag (GB), filter fabric (FF) and ERTEC.
4. Sediment control logs (SCL)
5. Silt fence (SF)
6. Straw bale barriers (StB)
7. Rock filter berm (RFB)
8. Check dams (CD) — straw bale (StB), sediment control log (SCL), or rock
9. Grubbing limits will be established prior to any site disturbance and will be
clearly marked and visible.
10. Existing vegetative ground cover will be preserved until such a time that the
construction schedule dictates removal of the ground cover.
• Grading
1. Sediment trap (ST)
2. Sediment basin (SB)
3. Temporary berms
4. Temporary diversion dike and ditch (DD)
5. Temporary slope drains (TSDs)
6. Inlet protection (IP) — straw bale (StB), silt fence (SF), sediment control logs
(SCL), gravel bag (GB), filter fabric (FF), and ERTEC.
7. Curb socks (CS)
8. Outlet protection (OP) — rock and soil retention blanket (SRB)
9. Sediment control logs (SCL)
10. Silt fence (SF)
11. Straw bale barriers (StB)
12. Rock filter berm (RFB)
13. Check dams — straw bale, sediment control log, rock
14. Slope stabilization — soil retention blankets (SRB)
15. Temporary stabilization — temporary seeding (TS), mulching (MU) (i.e., hydro -
mulching, crimped straw, or wood chips), tactifier, and SRB
16. Surface roughening (SR)
• Utilities and Infrastructure Installation (Temporary Only)
1. Sediment trap (ST)
2. Sediment basin (SB)
Animas Glacier SWMP February 2012
p. 13
