Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company Squaw Gulch Valley Leach Facility Design
1.0 INTRODUCTION
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company (CC &V) operates the Cresson Project, located
in Teller County, Colorado, near the city of Victor. The Cresson Project is a mining and ore
beneficiation facility that is composed of surface mines as well as a valley leach facility
(VLF); an adsorption, desorption, and recovery (ADR) plant; and associated infrastructure,
all of which were designed and constructed to meet or exceed the requirements established
by C.R.S. §34 32 -101 et seq. and regulations promulgated there under by the Mined Land
Reclamation Board (MLRB).
The existing Cresson Project VLF has been constructed in phases starting in 1994 and
continuing through 2004 (Phases I through IV). Phases I and II were permitted in 1994 and
constructed during the 1994 through 1996 construction seasons. Phase III was permitted in
1999 and construction was initiated the same year, with completion in 2000. Phase IV was
permitted in 2000 and construction was completed in 2004. Phase 5 was permitted in 2008
with construction planned to be complete in late 2011. CC &V is proposing to extend further
the ore beneficiation operations to accommodate additional ore identified within the mine
areas. This report presents the design for the proposed addition of approximately 15 million
square feet (surface area corrected for slope) of lined leach area to the north of the current
Cresson VLF in an area referred to as Squaw Gulch, and will be referred to as the Squaw
Gulch VLF as part of the Mine Life Extension 2 Project. This area encompasses
Squaw /Anaconda and Swede Gulches.
This report presents the geotechnical data and analyses for the Squaw Gulch VLF.
Included in this report are the following appendices:
• Appendix A - Field Investigation
o Appendix A.1 — AMEC Squaw Gulch VLF Geotechnical Logs
o Appendix A.2 — SWC Squaw Gulch VLF Geotechnical Logs
• Appendix B — Laboratory Testing
o Appendix B.1 — Squaw Gulch VLF Material Property Testing
• Appendix B.1.1 — SWC Squaw Gulch VLF Material Property Testing
• Appendix B.1.2 — AMEC Squaw Gulch VLF Material Property Testing
o Appendix B.2 — Golder 2005 Liner Load Testing For TR 45
o Appendix B.3 — Drain Cover Fill Permeability Testing
o Appendix B.4 — Cresson Ore Percolation and Consolidation Tests
o Appendix B.5 — Ore Shear Strength Test Data
o Appendix B.6 — Cresson VLF Interface Shear Strength Testing
o Appendix B.7 — Cresson Ore Data
• Appendix B.7.1 — Cresson Ore Draindown Data
• Appendix B.7.2 — Cresson Ore Moisture Data
• Appendix C — Design Calculations
o Appendix C.1 — Geogrid Calculations
o Appendix C.2 — Geomembrane Calculations
o Appendix C.3 — Primary Solution Collection Pipe Sizing Calculations
Project No : 74201125G0 Page 1
1 September 2011
7mec
