February 29, 2012 C- 1996- 084 /Lorencito Canyon Mine JHB
images.
A pool of water was held in the sump located northwest from Fill 8. This sump is down slope from a mud pit
associated with a gas well. A pool of water is also held in the sump immediately south of Pond 8. The water
elevation is below the drainage culvert, so no water from this sump is discharging to Pond 8.
No concerns were identified with any of the sediment ponds based on the observed photos.
ROADS — Rule 4.03 Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4) Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5)
and (6) Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
Roads throughout the reclaimed mine site appear to be dry and maintained appropriately for the limited access
necessary at the mine site. The gas company uses the mine access road to access the gas well. No concerns were
identified with the mine access road.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
Some rill formation is apparent on some of the steeper slopes. The operator needs to continue to monitor and
repair where gully formation impedes the reclamation.
The vegetation is dry and dormant in the winter months. The area appears to have established a fair grass
dominated community. Reclaimed slopes that have thin reestablished vegetation continue to exhibit limited rill
formation. Mitigation and limited inter - seeding of these slopes may be necessary this upcoming growing season.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER (SPECIFY)
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 3 of 7
