in a particular mine area is dependent on potentially changing conditions such as project
economics and may vary from that shown on the drawings.
Construction
Backfilling will be accomplished by end - dumping the material in "lifts" that vary in
height, depending on the logistics of truck hauling, the geographic locations relative to
the mines, and overburden removal scheduling. For areas that are backfilled to the level
of the existing ground surface, these areas will be graded to provide positive surface
water flow and will be blended with the surrounding topography. The northern part of
the WHEX portion of the East Cresson Mine area and Schist Island portion of the North
Cresson Mine area will be backfilled to the approximate existing ground surface.
Backfilling of the main portion of the WHEX and western portion of the Globe Hill area
will occur to promote free drainage of storm water runoff from these areas at closure.
Backfill will result in only a partial end - dumped backfill of the Main Cresson Mine area.
Drawing F -1 shows the post- mining topography for backfilled mine areas.
The backfilled North Cresson and East Cresson Mine areas will be graded to be free
draining for surface water. Drainage will be directed to one of several enhanced
management ponds ( "EMPs "). EMP 9 is located at the base of the backfilled Schist
Island portion of the North Cresson. EMP 10 and EMP 15 are located within the
backfilled portion of the East Cresson Mine area. For additional information see
Appendix 12 in Volume VI.
5.8 Haul/Access Roads
5.8.1 General
Haul roads and small vehicle roads utilized throughout the Cresson Project will change
routinely as the Cresson Project is developed. Primary haul roads outside of mine areas
are shown on Drawing C -4. Small vehicle roads are used for survey, environmental
monitoring, and other ancillary uses. During mine operation, as well as reclamation and
closure activities, public travel on the CC &V private roads is prohibited unless necessary
and under appropriate CC &V supervision.
Dust will be controlled on small vehicle roads and haul roads as necessary with periodic
watering and /or the addition of magnesium chloride surfactant or other suitable dust
suppressants, mixed with other suitable palliatives to control dust as necessary.
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
5 -22
