Higher grade ore for the High Grade Mill facilities will be designated
separately from ore destined for the VLFs. The blasted rock will be loaded into haul trucks using
either rubber tired, front -end loaders or track mounted hydraulic shovels. The ore will be hauled
to the existing crusher facility or to higher grade ore stockpiles, depending on the field
designation. Haul roads will be constructed to connect new mining areas to crushing and
processing areas. The crushing facilities are discussed in detail in Section 5.6 below.
Higher grade ore material will be closely mapped in each mine area so that it can be designated
prior to blasting and, to the extent possible, separated from the ore and selectively blasted and
hauled. The higher grade ore material will be stockpiled in the vicinity of the Main Cresson
Mine area and fed in weekly batches through the crushing facilities, separated from ore going
directly to the VLFs.
Overburden material will be hauled from the mine areas to one of two storage areas (the SGOSA
or the ECOSA) or hauled as backfill into the Main Cresson, East Cresson, or North Cresson
Mine areas. Backfilling will occur in areas where mining activities allow, usually following the
completion of the mining activities. Overburden placement is discussed in detail in Section 5.7
below. Backfill of mine areas is discussed in Section 5.7.3.
Subgrade preparation for the SGVLF or other facilities could also encounter overburden and
underground mine development rock that must be moved to achieve grade and appropriate
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
5 -15
