salvage and replacement as well as the testing and determination of the need for amendments.
Mining has occurred in the area of the Cresson Project for over 100 years and as such, many
areas have had soils disturbed by previous mining activities. CC &V collects and stockpiles
growth medium whenever possible and will use stockpiled materials in reclamation, prioritizing
use in accordance with the plan presented in Section 12.0 of the Project Description in the event
that the previous disturbances do not allow for adequate growth medium salvage.
14.18 Wildlife Protection
A description of the measures to protect wildlife from coming into contact with designated
chemicals is contained in the Wildlife Protection Plan included as Appendix 16, Volume VII.
The designated chemicals principally are contained in the internal PSSAs at the VLFs, in the
ADRs facilities, or in the High Grade Mill facilities. CC &V utilizes buried drip emitters to apply
dilute sodium cyanide process solutions to the VLFs and therefore ponded solutions are not
anticipated. CC &V also utilizes a sump to transfer solutions from Phase III to the Phase II PSSA
of the AGVLF; this sump is covered with four inch HDPE balls and is fenced for wildlife
protection.
The leach tanks and thickener for solutions from the CIP process will be located exterior to the
High Grade Mill building. As discussed in Section 6.4 of this Project Description, the top of
these tanks will be open and bird mitigation measures, such as netting or bird balls, will be
implemented, if necessary. Past experience with dilute sodium cyanide solution leach tanks has
shown that birds do not tend to use these as a water source due to the small open area of each
tank, the noise associated with the agitation, and the level of activity of the milling operations.
14.19 Disposal of Tailings and Sludges in Mine Workings
No tailings or sludges will be disposed in mine workings as part of MLE2 at the Cresson Project.
14.20 Emergency Response Plan
CC &V has developed an Emergency Response Plan ( "ERP ") for use by employees as a guide for
the prevention, control, and reporting of releases of chemicals and petroleum products at the
Cresson Project and to respond to potential fires. The ERP is comprised of several documents
including the SPCC Plan, the Cyanide Emergency Response Plan, and the Fire Protection Plan.
The ERP is provided in Appendix 14 of Volume VII of this document. The plan lists emergency
procedures for controlling releases, including equipment to be used. The plan is based on the
current operations at the Cresson Project and will be updated for expected future storage and use
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
14 -16
