9.2 Power Supply
Electrical power to the Cresson Project is supplied by Black Hills Energy. Black Hills Energy
has furnished power lines to its substation located south of SH 67 near the Carlton Security
Access. A new substation, constructed, owned, and maintained by Black Hills Energy, will be
located just southwest of the proposed new Squaw Gulch Security Access in Squaw Gulch and
west of the realigned portion of SH 67 as shown on Drawing C -3. The new substation will
supply power to the SGADR and SGVLF. The anticipated location of powerlines is shown on
Drawing C -3. Note that actual locations may vary from those shown due to site - specific
conditions and field constraints during construction and installation of the powerlines.
Since the startup of the Cresson Project, emergency diesel - powered generators are available to
supply the needed electrical power for the pump systems at the AGADR and AGVLF during the
few short line power outages. This back -up system has worked effectively. Additional,
emergency generators are proposed to supply the needed power for the pumps systems at the
SGADR and SGVLF during any potential power outages. Adequate emergency power will be
available through a total of six emergency diesel generators for the extended activities of MLE2
for the Cresson Project. In effect, this reduces the possibility that there would be the 12 -hour
draindown period used in the design of the PSSAs. Four emergency generators will be located at
the SGADR, one emergency generator will be located at the High Grade Mill facilities and one
emergency generator at Phase IV of the AGVLF.
9.3 Water Supply Upgrade
Water is used in the ore beneficiation circuit, for suppression of fugitive dust, drilling,
laboratory, sanitary facilities, and for various miscellaneous associated uses such as vehicle
washing and applying hydromulch during reclamation activities. The primary use of water is in
the VLF /ADR facilities and High Grade Mill facilities. Section 7.0 contains a discussion of
water use on the VLFs, as well as a water balance for the SGVLF.
Currently, fresh water for on -site use is purchased from various sources based on contractual
arrangement and delivered primarily from the City of Victor's system. Water is pumped from
the City of Victor's Altman Pump Station (located on Beaver Creek) and supplied to the Cresson
Project, or by gravity from a surface reservoir system located further upstream. The water
supplied is untreated (chlorination is used when supplied for domestic purposes in the Victor
public water supply system). A copy of the agreement with the City of Victor is included as
Appendix 11 of this document. CC &V has a back -up water supply via agreements with the City
of Cripple Creek and Colorado Springs Utilities. Copies of those agreements also are included in
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mining Company
Cresson Project Mine Life Extension 2
9 -4
