6.1 Impact Assessment: No threatened, endangered, or sensitive plants species were found
during biological surveys of the project area.
6.2 Mitigation: No mitigation is required.
7.0 RECLAMATION
7.1 Noxious Weeds
State listed noxious weeds are present throughout the project area (Table 11). Distribution is
mainly along the Reed Wash riparian corridor. Seven listed species were detected during
biological surveys of the project area. Undisturbed, upland habitats on each side of Reed Wash
did not maintain large infestations of weed species. The dominant understory vegetation was
Gray Molly, which is a native species.
Portions of the floodplain along Reed Wash are infested with hoary cress (whitetop, Photo 8).
Heavy infestations were noted on the north portion of Reed Wash under the tamarisk stands.
Fortunately, reed canarygrass grows very densely along the banks of Reed Wash and tends to
keep the whitetop under control. Lambsquarter, an unlisted invasive weed species, also occur as
an understory weed species in the tamarisk stand.
Tamarisk is well established in Reed Wash (Photo 9). The tamarisk thicket growth is extremely
dense throughout the riparian corridor. As discussed earlier, the tamarisk appears to have
experienced a major dieback recently. This dieback may provide an opportunity to control the
regrowth of this noxious, non - native species and encourage regrowth of native species.
Table 11.
