types, operator/operating efficiencies, support equipment, and overall reclamation time span had to be
determined. The following discussion provides the considerations utilized in determining the equipment •
fleet needed.
Production Shifts, One shift per day was used for topsoiling and finish grading. Two shifts par day
were used for open pit backfilling. Using two shifts per day would allow for preventative maintenance
and minor equipment repair to occur on third shift, if needed. Shifts were based on an eight-hour period
per shift. A conservative operating efficiency of 83 percent was used to account for decreased
productivity due to operator efficiency for scrapers. Fifty min/hr was used for dozers due to other
factors, taking darkness into consideration.
Equipment Type. The types of equipment selected were based on similar type equipment presently
operating at the mine site or could prudently be brought in for a job of this magnitude. Whenever
possible, Caterpillar equipment was used for reclamation due to widely published information regarding
costs and performance. All equipment costs were taken from those provided by DMG. Please see
appropriate worksheets for a list of all cost factors. Equipment performance was based on Cat
Handbook No. 30, EMF, Means, FPC, or otherwise as noted.
Equipment and operator performance factors were based on generally published and accepted criteria •
(see individual worksheetsl. Operator wages were all based on information supplied by DMG.
Reclamation Time Frame. A reasonable time frame for a job of this magnitude is estimated at
approximately 1300 hours for backfilling and grading, and 1100 hours for topsoiling. Assuming three
D11 dozers working two shifts per day backfilling and grading and four 637 scrapers topsoiling one
shift per day, total project time is estimated at S months. This is assuming some topsoiling overlaps the
backfilling and grading.
Indirect Costs
The following is an estimate of indirect costs associated with the reclamation of the Seneca II-W Mine.
Mobilization and Demobilization Costs. Mobilization and demobilization costs were based .on mobilizing
•
the major pieces of equipment.
•
PR-05 6 Revised 05/05
